During practice for the 2005 Championships, the Flight of the Phoenix car takes a run. This car was originally built in the 1970's, then rebuilt and made a foot longer to race at the 2005 Championships. It raced in the Ultimate Speed Division, which has very few rules.
Making adjustments to my car before the 2005 World Championship race.
Before my second race at the 2005 World Championships, I am pulling on my bike gloves. I used to wear these because the bumps would jar the (metal) steering wheel and beat up my hands, but my hands are apparently tougher now and I no longer use them.
This tall bridge sits above the finish line at the World Championship hill. It houses the announcers and officials who work out the race results and tournament brackets.
Another car practicing for the Ultimate Speed Division race, this time at the 2006 World Championships. Instead of using the standard wheels required in other divisions of the Soap Box Derby, Ultimate Speed Cars can have any wheels, from bicycle wheels shown here to skateboard wheels. This car was not very fast, due to the large wheels, but was very quiet.
