These pictures are from Soap Box Derby races I've been in from 2003 to the present (though most pictures are from 2005 and newer). These are from an enormous folder of pictures and some more which had been dumped off the digital camera, totalling over 400.
Hopefully the image quality is better than before.
The Reynolds sisters racing indoors at night.
This is the second (of three) indoor tracks where the Chicago Area Soap Box Derby has held races. It was used for the second and third Chicago Indoor races. It was in the betting lobby of horse-racing track in Cicero (a suburb of Chicago). The cars go down the ramps at one end of the room, then race across the tile floor for 250 feet at 10-15 mph before crossing the finish line and braking to a stop.
Here I am on the starting ramp at Green Bay, during the 2005 race.
Taken later on the same day as above, this picture is probably of Aaron Liimatainen's last race besides the World Championships (in the red car). He was a very skilled and successful driver. In the background is his sister, whose unpainted car illustrates how fiberglass was applied to shape the cars (this has since been made mostly illegal).
The line to race in the third round at the 2005 World Championships. Over 500 cars qualified for the Championships, in seven different divisions, about 160 of them in my division (Super Stock). I had won two rounds and was standing with my car just to the left of this picture. I lost in the third round.
Getting out of my car last fall after a race in Racine. You can see that it is a tight fit.
