The first in a series of galleries of various pictures of Soap Box Derby races I have participated from 2003 to the present (though we didn't have the digital camera until 2005, so nearly all of these will be 2005 - present). The pictures are ordered chronologically.
All of the pictures are taken by me, my dad, or family. I may post some of other people's photos in the future.
This is at Racine, Wisconsin (my favorite track) in May of 2005. Racine's hill is 752 feet long and 24 feet high, in a scenic location overlooking a Lake Michigan beach. I am driving the white car.
My first race at the World Championship hill in Akron, Ohio. It was during the regular season, and attracted around 120 participants! The Akron hill is nearly 1,000 feet long and cars reach speeds over 30 mph (my car is the white one in lane #1).
This car competed in the top class at the World Championships in 2005. It cost $40,000 to design and build (including paying professional engineers). The driver received a $1,000 scholarship to anywhere in the country for finishing 3rd.
Outlaw is the world's FASTEST Soap Box Derby car. Here it is getting ready for practice at the 2006 World Championships.
I am the orange car on the left, racing at Racine. September 9, 2006. Taken by my dad who was standing in the "braking zone" to help roll cars off the track after they stop.
I won the same race as above! It was my 2nd win out of 3 so far. This picture shows a little bit of the beach and lake.
